Why does Harry Reid oppose tax breaks for energy producers but supports tax breaks for gold miners?

Because he's the Sr. Senator from Nevada and some of the biggest gold mines are in Nevada and eastern Calif. There are big gold mines elsewhere as well (ex. Alaska, Colorado and Dakotas) but many are from Reid's area.
